    Artist Information:

Ben Stack is amongst the most energetic abstract painters in Australia.
Known for his large scale Abstract Paintings in high voltage colour.
His vivid paintings have a huge presence in Corporate
and Private residences throughout Australia and the world.

Born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1959.
Ben has lived in Africa, USA and in Sydney since 1994.
    and has three vivid children.
His arrival in Sydney was dramatic.
Our bright blue, cloudless skies, and strong light,
have inspired his work ever since.

He studied Art and Art History at Trinity College Dublin Ireland,
    the Kunstacademie Maastricht Holland,
and at the University of California at Irvine.

“I’m trying to create space in an abstract way.
    I want to create beauty
with the simplicity of gestural paint on canvas.”

“My paintings usually start with a colour combination,
then evolve in a direction that rarely makes logical sense.
To me, art is the energy that it takes to make it…
Speed and simplicity are my primary goals.”

‘Paint as a real physical substance,
with its own weight and character.
I’m looking for a spontaneous, gestural honesty in every mark.’
‘I’m trying to suspend the rational, logical part of my brain,
so that something less rational and unexpected can emerge…
Mistakes can be the source of new ideas.’

‘I work with elements of expression and illusionism.
    I use multi-layered backgrounds,
    with impasto, marble dust,
concrete and Guinness mixed with the paint.”

He has had many solo exhibitions across Australia,
    Europe, the USA and Africa.
His work is held in corporate,
private and public collections in both hemispheres.
He is reputed as ‘one of Australia’s most collectible Artists’
    because of his notable exposure,
and a steady demand for his large scale works.
Creating a 3D Illusion with air brushed shadows,
layered behind unique gestural brush strokes.
Each of his paintings has a distinctive depth and intrigue about them,
which makes them easily recognisable and very collectable.
