I came accross a video online today,
It’s a short piece about the painter Sean Scully.

We met in Dublin in 1984.
He was invited to judge the work of the graduating students
of that year. I was one of them.

He loved the paintings I was doing at the time,
and wanted to know how I had arrived at in my work.

After much talk and laughter, we ended up downing too many pints of Guinness in a noisy Dublin pub.
He talked of of methods, motives and materials, and the strategy of making a career as a painter.

And although he was the rising star of the New York art scene, with sales of his paintings in six figures,
and museums lining up to buy one, I felt that he considered me as an equal.

I have always admired the monumental simplicity in his work, and I hope you enjoy this clip:

‘The Navigator’ ~ Giclee on Paper

We are pleased to announce the arrival of a Limited Edition reproduction of one of Ben’s most popular ArtWorks. ‘The Navigator’ is a large landscape image 110x210cms and looks amazing presented in the shadow boxed frame that we have selected.

We have used the expert services of Cam Neville at Storm Imaging to reproduce the image using a 10x8cm positive and the results are incredible. There is no loss of depth from the original image and the vivid colours are spectacular. To quote Cam when he finished the printing; he said “It is the best print I have ever done” which is a big statement to make with 25 years experience!

Storm Imaging act as a specialist in Exhibition and Conservation printing for many clients, offering advice and expertise on imaging, printing and archiving of prints. With a fleet of state of the art giclee printers they can print up to 64 inches wide by any length. This was perfect for the large scale of image that we were needing!

Our friends at Emergent Designs have mounted the prints using Gataboard and we have chosen a lightweight Shadow Boxed frame using PlexiGlass which offers reduced glare and much less weight for handling. The image is fully archival and will not diminish over time. An example of the framed piece is below, taken during a recent exhibition so it does show some glare from the lights.

The Definition : Giclee (zhee-klay) - The French word “giclée” is a feminine noun that means a spray or a spurt

of liquid. The word may have been derived from the French verb “gicler” meaning “to squirt”.

The Term : The term “giclee print” connotes an elevation in printmaking technology. Images are generated from

high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality inks onto various substrates including canvas, fine art,

and photo-base paper. The giclee printing process provides better color accuracy than other means of reproduction.

The Process : Giclee prints are created typically using professional 8-Color to 12-Color ink-jet printers. Among the

manufacturers of these printers are vanguards such as Epson, MacDermid Colorspan, & Hewlett-Packard. These modern

technology printers are capable of producing incredibly detailed prints for both the fine art and photographic markets.

It has been a long time coming but finally here is the new website with lots of new information about Recent Paintings and recent Commissioned Paintings which I have undertaken. Adding to that is a broad synopsis of my Abstract Works in order to demonstrate the styles and colour schemes that I work with for further commissions.

There is also a retrospective of my work in this site which includes some of my early works in Africa, USA and Europe.

I hope to use this as an interactive site where I will provide news from the Studio and from the Art World itself. I understand the interent to be a valuable tool for research and keeping abreast of all things Artistic; though it can be a great distraction to my work at times. In this ever changing environment I do recognise the need for reaching all levels of social media and various Artist Communities so I hope to achieve that through regular updates on this site whilst minimising distractions!
