    I came accross a video online today,
    It’s a short piece about the painter Sean Scully.

    We met in Dublin in 1984.
    He was invited to judge the work of the graduating students 
    of that year. I was one of them.

    He loved the paintings I was doing at the time, 
    and wanted to know how I had arrived at the ideas being expressed in my work.

    After much talk and laughter, we ended up downing too many pints of Guinness in a noisy Dublin pub.
    He talked of of methods, motives and materials, and the strategy of making a career as a painter.

    And although he was the rising star of the New York art scene, with sales of his paintings in six figures,
    and museums lining up to buy one, I felt that he considered me as an equal.
