africa
In 1983, when I was 24 years old, I left for an adventure in Africa.
Initially, my plan was to travel around for three weeks, and paint the dramatic landscape for an exhibition at home in Dublin later that year.
In my time in Africa, I had three exhibitions and learnt to speak Swahili. I taught art in a high school in Mombasa, and worked in a gallery in Nairobi. I travelled through 8 countries and nearly died a couple of times. I got home five years later with my mind enlivened by a thousand visions.
These are some of the people I met.
